FAQ

Do I need to submit the grant report if I have already submitted the annual NSF progress report?

Yes, the report you submit to the workshop is separate from the annual project report submitted to the NSF. We request that all PIs submit a grant report, whether or not you attend the workshop. The report will both be submitted to NSF and compiled into the proceedings for the workshop. Please see the "Submit Grant Report" page on the website for the report template and instructions.

Is the NSF funding travel expenses, or are we responsible for our own?

It is our intention that you be reimbursed for full expenses: up to $650 for airfare, and up to three nights at the hotel. We are budgeted for 121 participants, so space is limited, but if you register by the deadline (August 1), we don't anticipate a problem. Please see the "Travel, Hotel, and Reimbursement" page of the website for more details.

I am attending the VLDB conference in Europe. Can I be reimbursed for part of my travel if I fly directly to Seattle to attend the IDM workshop?

Partial reimbursement for international travel from the VLDB conference will be decided on a case-by-case basis. In order to be reimbursed, participants will have to fly on a U.S. carrier and will have to provide specific documentation. Please contact the workshop coordinator, Kim Prater (kprater@u.washington.edu), with specific questions regarding international travel reimbursement.

Is there room for more than one PI per project to attend the workshop?

Co-PIs are welcome to attend the workshop. However, we want to be sure that we can accommodate all PIs who wish to attend before promising support to Co-PIs. As long as there is space available, we will be able to reimburse Co-PIs who wish to attend. Please see the "Travel, Hotel, and Reimbursement" page of the website for more details, and contact the workshop coordinator, Kim Prater, with specific questions regarding support for Co-PIs.

My Co-PIs have not received information about the workshop. How can I make sure they on the mailing list?

Co-PIs are encouraged to subscribe to the IDM mailing distribution list at the following website: http://mailman.cs.washington.edu/mailman/listinfo/idm-participants

How will the demos be handled?

We are currently planning to hold the demos in a separate room that people will be able to wander through. The demos are currently scheduled for Monday afternoon, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Demo presenters are encouraged to provide their own equipment.  Our budget for accommodating equipment requests is limited.
